Ascona, September 13, 2026 – One week after the final of the 16th Ascona Polo Cup, the grandstands in Ascona are still standing. Only the sound has changed: where chukkas were being discussed seven days ago, the show jumpers from CSI Ascona are now flying over the obstacles. The equestrian days at Lago Maggiore are in full swing – and the Polo Club Ascona is taking stock of its tournament. It is unequivocal: Team Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte wins the arena polo tournament undefeated – making a successful debut as a team sponsor. Silver goes to Team Private Fine, likewise a debutant, and bronze to the defending champion Styger & Partner AG. Three days of polo on sand, six teams from five nations, over 80 horses, a well-attended spectator grandstand in the middle of the "Swiss Village of the Year" – and a symbolic baton that was passed from the sport of polo to show jumping and is being redeemed right now. The 17th Ascona Polo Cup 2027 is already in planning.
Three days that went by far too quickly
Those who sat in the Polo Arena Ascona on Friday, September 4th, could hardly believe that the trophy was already being presented on Sunday evening. A week later, the weekend can still be felt – among the teams, the partners, the guests, many of whom have stayed behind and are now sitting in the same stands for the show jumping. In Ascona, what polo in Ticino stands for was intensified: sport in a small space, speed, emotion, closeness to the audience. Beach party "simply white" on Friday, parade through the historic town center and gala "Welcome to the Jungle!" on Saturday, final on Sunday. Three atmospheres, three days – and a weekend to be remembered.
Ascona Polo Cup Winner 2026: Change of Guard on the Sand
The big question before the tournament was: Would Styger & Partner claim their third consecutive title? The answer came in the final. Team Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte won all three matches and decided the decisive duel against Private Fine with 13.5:9. Team Private Fine took second place in their debut – including an 8:7 victory over the defending champion on Saturday. Styger & Partner AG secured third place with a 10:5 victory over PKB Private Bank.
At the award ceremony, the two-time winner from the previous years presented the handmade traveling trophy to Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte. For years, this work by a Swiss artist has passed from winning team to winning team – and with it comes fame, pride, and tournament history. That a champagne house could celebrate the title upon its very first participation could hardly have been more fitting.
«Two team sponsors at their first participation and immediately on the top two podium places – that is no coincidence. Ascona Polo Cup is growing in terms of sport, partnerships and its appeal far beyond the region», says Matteo Beffa, President of Polo Club Ascona.

Arena Polo in Ascona: Polo for everyone, right in the heart of the village
Polo is considered in many places to be an exclusive sport. Ascona proves the opposite. Arena polo is played on sand, three against three, on a field measuring 80 x 50 meters - right in the middle of the city, directly by Lago Maggiore. Spectators sit by the sand, hear the horses snorting, and understand the game in just a few minutes. On Saturday, families from Ascona, Locarno, and all of Ticino stood alongside guests from all over Switzerland, Italy, and Germany at the edge of the field. Announcer Jan-Erik Franck, "The Voice of Polo", guided through the rules, tactics, and pace - and turned spectators into fans.
The well-being of the horses was also at the top of the agenda in 2026: from the stable organization, over the non-slip sand surface mixed with felt pieces, to the riding pace in the chukkas.
Passing the baton: From polo to show jumping
The final act of the Ascona Polo Cup 2026 did not belong to a team, but to the region. After the final, the Polo Club Ascona symbolically handed over the baton to Renato [Nachname] from CSI Ascona – a sign that the equestrian sports days at Lago Maggiore will continue. Four days later, the international show jumping tournament CSI Ascona began its 33rd edition at the former airfield with riders from over 20 nations – and concludes today, September 13th. Ten days of equestrian sports in Ascona, as announced: first polo, then show jumping.
Polo and show jumping belong together in Ascona. Two disciplines, two tournaments, a common foundation: the love for the horse, horsemanship, and respect for the animal – as well as the connection to a region that supports both events. The newly organized Ascona Polo Cup in 2026 was considered the prelude to these equestrian days, and CSI Ascona as their highlight. Anyone who loves horses did well to stay for ten days – and many did just that.
The region as a winner
Ten days of equestrian sports meant full hotels, restaurants, and shops for Ascona–Locarno, guests from all over Switzerland, from Italy and Germany – and images that travel the world: Horses on the Piazza, the lake in the background, «Switzerland’s Village of the Year» as the stage. Sport here is both an economic engine and an identity. Michela Ris, Deputy Mayor of Ascona, had formulated it in advance like this: The Polo Club creates a sense of belonging, inspiration, and a form of quality of life that extends far beyond the event itself. After these ten days, one thing is certain: This applies to both polo and show jumping.
Every franc helps children
The Ascona Polo Cup is the most important event of the year for the Styger Stiftung für Kinder. The proceeds from the tombola and auction go entirely to children's projects in Switzerland. Whoever celebrates in Ascona gives something back.
New in 2026: Digital table reservation and a dedicated media house
For the first time, guests reserved their table for the gala dinner and hospitality via the new Ascona table reservation system – directly, digitally, and without detours. Developed from Polo Club Ascona, the system is the first building block of a modular platform that will accompany polo events in the future from table reservation to the live scoreboard. The tournament was complemented by the first edition of the APC newspaper, APC-TV with match scenes and atmosphere pictures, as well as the news portal news.poloclubascona.ch, where results, interviews, and pictures remain available even now after the tournament.
Thanks to everyone who lent a hand
Polo Club Ascona thanks the players, grooms and stable teams, the umpires and helpers by the field, in the kitchen and behind the bar. The team sponsors Private Fine, Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte, Charly Zenger, PKB Private Bank, Styger & Partner AG and Seven Group. The approximately twenty partners from Switzerland, Germany and France, including Oona Caviar, Blackforest Polo Gin, Delea Vini and Seven Catering. The municipality of Ascona, CSI Ascona and the region, which support these equestrian days. And the guests, who set the tone with their enthusiasm.
