The Ascona Polo Club has done it again: the 2024 Polo Cup became an unforgettable experience for players and spectators alike. From September 6th to 8th, the field on the shores of Lake Maggiore was transformed into a stage for dramatic competitions, emotional moments, and a victory decided only after a spectacular penalty shootout on Sunday. But one thing is clear: this year, magic was in the air - and it left no one cold.
Friday: A prelude with fire
The starting signal was given on Friday with three exciting matches that set the tone for the entire weekend. The very first match at 4:00 PM between Styger and Seven provided pure energy on the field. With a score of 13:10, Styger secured the first victory of the tournament.
But the real highlight of the day came later. When the Ascona-Locarno team played against Wetag at 5:30 PM, you could literally feel the tension in the stands. With a final score of 12:17 for Wetag, it became clear: this team would make a name for itself regardless.
Matteo Beffa, one of the club's most important leaders, summed up the day well with his words: "Polo is not just a sport. It is a game of minds and hearts. Every hit, every gallop, every decision on the field is a reflection of the passion we all carry within us."
Sabato: La serata delle sorprese
Saturday evening brought the spectators what they love: dramatic twists, glorious victories, and narrow defeats. At 7:00 PM, Styger moved on to the next round against Charly Zenger. Despite a tough battle, Styger lost 12:14. But that was just the beginning of a spectacular evening.
Team Wetag continued its winning streak at 8:30 PM and beat Lucid Motors with an impressive 19:13. In the last match of the day at 10:00 PM, Ascona-Locarno finally managed to secure a nerve-wracking 9:8 victory against Seven. The crowd went wild, the tension rose - and the anticipation for Sunday's final was palpable.
Sunday: Rain, tension, and penalties
Sunday brought a surprising turn of events: due to persistent rainy weather, regular matches on the field became impossible. Instead, it was decided to determine the rankings through exciting penalty shootouts. However, the bad weather did not dampen the tension; quite the opposite.
At 11:00 a.m., the battle for fifth place between Lucid Motors and Seven began, which Lucid Motors won 8-7 after an exciting shootout. The match for third place, originally planned as a classic match, also ended in a penalty shootout between Styger and Ascona-Locarno. The result: a 2-2 draw.
The Grand Final at 2:00 p.m. was also decided by penalties. Wetag Christis and Charly Zenger were neck and neck, but in the end, Wetag Christis prevailed and won the coveted Ascona Polo Cup 2024.

At 11:00, the battle for fifth place between Lucid Motors and Seven began, which Lucid Motors won with a decisive penalty, ending 8:7. The match for third place, originally scheduled as a classic match, also ended in a penalty shootout between Styger and Ascona-Locarno, with a final score of 2:2.
