From September 6th to 8th, the field on the shores of Lake Maggiore was transformed into a stage for dramatic matches, thrilling moments, and a winner that was only decided after an exciting penalty shootout on Sunday. But one thing is clear: this year, magic was in the air - and it left one cold. ### Friday: A prelude with fire The starting signal was given on Friday with three exciting matches that set the tone for the entire weekend. The first match at 4:00 PM between Styger and Seven already provided pure energy on the field. With a score of 13:10, Styger secured the first victory of the tournament. But the real highlight of the day came later. When the Ascona-Locarteam played against Wetag at 5:30 PM, you could literally feel the tension in the stands. With a final score of 12:17 for Wetag, it became clear: this team would still make a name for itself. Matteo Beffa, one of the prominent heads of the club, summed up the day aptly with his words: ***"Polo is not just a sport. It is a game of spirit and heart. Every stroke, every gallop, every decision on the field is a mirror of the passion we all carry within us."*** ### Saturday: The evening full of surprises Saturday evening brought viewers what they love – dramatic turns, glorious victories, and narrow defeats. At 7:00 PM, Styger advanced to the next round against Charly Zenger. Despite a tough battle, Styger lost 12:14. But that was just the beginning of a spectacular evening. Team Wetag continued their winning streak at 20:30 and defeated Lucid Motors with an impressive 19:13. In the final match of the day at 22:00, Ascona-Locarfinally managed to secure a nerve-wracking 9:8 victory over Seven. The crowd went wild, the tension rose – and the anticipation for the final on Sunday was palpable. ### Sunday: Rain, tension and penalty shootouts Sunday brought a surprising turn of events: due to the persistent rainy weather, regular matches on the field became impossible. Instead, it was decided to determine the rankings via exciting penalty shootouts. However, the bad weather did not dampen the excitement – on the contrary. At 11:00, the battle for fifth place between Lucid Motors and Seven began, which Lucid Motors won 8-7 after a thrilling shootout. The third-place match, which was originally planned as a classic, also ended with a shootout between Styger and Ascona-Locarno. The result: a 2-2 draw. The Grand Finale at 2:00 PM was also decided by penalty shots. Wetag Christis and Charly Zenger were neck and neck, but in the end, Wetag Christis won and captured the coveted Ascona Polo Cup 2024. ### A brief overview of the matches and winners **Friday, September 06, 2024** 16:00 | **1st match** : Styger vs. Seven – 13:10 17:30 | **2nd match** : Ascona-Locarvs. Wetag – 12:17 18:45 | **3rd match** : Charly Zenger vs. Lucid Motors – 13:11 **Saturday, September 07, 2024** 19:00 | **1st match** : Styger vs. Charly Zenger – 12:14 20:30 | **2nd match** : Wetag vs. Lucid Motors – 19:13 22:00 | **3rd match** : Ascona-Locaragainst Seven – 9:8 **Sunday, September 08, 2024** 11:00 | **Match for fifth place** : Lucid Motors vs. Seven – Penalty shots 8:7 12:30 | **Match for third place** : Styger vs. Ascona-Locar– 2:2 (penalty shootout) 14:00 | **Grande Finale** : Wetag Christis vs. Charly Zenger – Penalty shootout > **Winner of the Ascona Polo Cup 2024** : Wetag Christis ### Thanks to everyone The Ascona Polo Club would like to thank all the teams, sponsors, participants, and supporters who made this event possible. It is a game of mind and heart. You are in the gaze, the gallop, the decision is made so quickly that you have to let the love of the game guide you."* ### Sabato: La serata delle sorprese Saturday evening brought viewers what they love: dramatic twists, glorious victories, and narrow defeats. At 7:00 PM, Styger faced Charly Zenger for the next round. Despite a tough battle, Styger lost 12:14. My own solo of the season was spectacular. Team Wetag took on the steep sprint at 8:30 PM, beating Lucid Motors with an impressive 19:13. In the 10:00 PM match, Ascona-Locarhad an unexpected match against Seven, winning 9:8. At 11:00 AM, the fight for fifth place began between Lucid Motors and Seven, which Lucid Motors won with a penalty decision, ending 8:7.
